5 NYFW Trends You Can Incorporate in Your Wardrobe
By Camille Nzengung
Every year at NYFW, various designers showcase their latest collections, bringing a new wave of trends to try for the upcoming season. While the ready-to-wear looks seen on the runway are beautiful to look at, for college students, they can sometimes be far from looks they can actually wear. Here’s how to incorporate some of NYFW biggest runway trends into your everyday wardrobe.
Stripes
It’s no surprise that stripes ruled the runway at NYFW, as this classic print never goes out of style. From thick to thin and bright to dark, stripes are super easy to incorporate into your class outfits. Try out the trend for yourself with this colorful skirt from Forever 21.
Fringe
One of the more statement trends for spring 2018, fringe adds some much need playfulness to your gloomy fall wardrobe. Fringe can seem super tricky to wear, but actually works well on jackets, coats, skirts and even accessories and shoes. For those who aren’t quite ready for a full-on fringe look, opt for a fun tiered skirt like this one from Missguided.
Short Suits
NYFW revamped fall’s power suit into a chic, relaxed short suit that’s perfect for spring. The matching two-piece blazer and short set works for just about any occasion and comes in so many unexpected patterns and colors, like this turquoise one from ASOS.
Puffed Shoulders
The ’80s are back in the form of strong, puffed shoulders. Instead of the retro prom vibes that you would probably expect, this silhouette has been modernized into a flattering shape. The extra fabric around your shoulders not only adds some drama to your look, but also creates the illusion of slimmer arms. This cool detail can be seen on everything from leather jackets to even dresses, like this one from Urban Outfitters.
Micro Florals
No matter what Miranda Priestley says, florals will always be a spring must-have, though admittedly not groundbreaking. But instead of the big, bold flower print that you’re used to wearing year after year, it’s all about the tiny florals. This small-scale print adds an ultra-feminine touch to dresses and tops, but also freshens up a pair of shoes like these booties from Sam Edelman.
