Blushing Brides Hit The Runway: The Best Shows at New York Bridal Fashion Week

By Camille Nzengung

While NYFW is now a thing of the past, the chicest bridal fashion hit the runway at New York Bridal Fashion Week early October. The biggest names in bridal wear debuted their fall 2018 collections, and the traditional white wedding gown got some major style changes. A wide range of dresses were seen on the runway, from the white classics to gowns with over-the-top embellishments. While all of the shows delivered looks to make any future bride swoon, a few stood out from the rest by bringing a fresh perspective to the typical wedding dress. Here are some of our favorite picks from the runways this Bridal Week.

Monique Lhuillier

A designer known for her iconic wedding dresses, Monique Lhuillier brought it back to the basics with her fall 2018 bridal collection which she described as “ethereal, chic, and understated.” Her 17 looks featured the designer’s signature style, with intricate details of delicate lace, full tulle skirts, and structured corset tops. While Lhuillier’s gowns centered on simplicity, she added some trendier pieces, like a pearl-embellished motorcycle jacket and luxe fur coats for somewhat of a more rebellious bridal look.

Marchesa

Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig’s latest collection featured show-stopping gowns particularly focusing on functionality, making sure any bride can get through a long day of wedding festivities. Many of the dresses featured removable long, dramatic trains perfect for hitting the dance floor after the ceremony, or Chantilly capes worn down the aisle then taken off for the reception. Other looks featured ’80s-style on-trend details like puffy sleeves and large shoulder bows.

Lela Rose

At the fairytale-like Elizabeth Street Garden, Lela Rose showcased 12 new classic wedding dresses with a modern-day twist. Mostly featuring off-the-shoulder necklines, her collection was super feminine, sophisticated, and elegant. Beautiful white orchids adorned the models’ hair, matching the floral and brocade printed gowns.
